The Outer Hebrides, Eva Ström

I think this poem, The Outer Hebrides, by outstanding Swedish poet Eva Ström, belongs to the same category as Cavafy's "Ithaca". A truly memorable poem.

Below is an English version I produced some years ago, published in "Swedish Reflections, from Beowulf to Bergman" (2003).

Eva Ström was awarded the Nordic Council for Literature Award in 2003.
